Are You Ignoring God?

To be honest, life has been pretty hectic for me the last couple of weeks. My schedule has been full of school and homework and volleyball and writing and other activities.

Maybe you’re the same.

In this time, it can be easy to forget about God and just go on with our day (or even week). Everything can seem fine on the outside, but we are left feeling unsatisfied at the end of the day, wishing we could have done more. It’s not until we hit rock bottom or we don’t get something that we want that we suddenly turn to God.

Shelley Black in her book ‘Savoring Singleness’ put it this way: Imagine you have a significant friend that you each provide everything for in your relationship and care for. You have a great relationship, such a tight bond. But suddenly, you guys stop spending time together and your friend becomes preoccupied, hanging out with other people and getting involved in bad decisions. Soon enough, you two rarely see each other and if you do, you don’t even stop to talk. But then, things take a turn and your friend ‘out of the blue’ comes to your house and asks for money and a place to stay. What would you do?

You probably wouldn’t want to help them since they left you, right? That’s what we do to God all the time! Things can go great in a relationship when both people are contributing. But when one starts to stray and not carry on their load (that’s us all the time), then the other is left confused and doesn’t want to carry on the extra load. When things go bad, we turn to God because we know that He can do anything and help us. But that’s using God as a genie.

Even though God is loving enough to provide for all our needs and never leave us, He wants our hearts. He wants a relationship with us. He wants to be the first thing on our minds at the beginning of the day and the last thing on our minds at the end of the day. He enjoys spending time with us through prayer and wants our worship.

Is that too much for Him to ask for? He is the one who created us in His image, and He is the one who gives us our every breath. God sent His only Son to die for us so that we may not face sin or separation from Him– yet we’re the ones to reject and ignore Him.

1 John 4:19 says,” We love Him because He first loved us.” We should be devoted to Hi, because He has seen us in our darkest moments– and He has been with us through it all. Never once judging us or leaving us to do it on our own. Now that is true love, the kind of love that everyone is desiring, yet not all are finding.

The world easily puts a disguise on the truth, twisting it to show that we don’t need God and that what matters most is money, popularity and being successful. We often conform to peer pressure, thinking that we will stand out or be laughed at for following Christ. When in fact, it’s the exact opposite of what we should be doing.

Today I want to ask you: are you ignoring God? Are you putting Him to the side, waiting for things to get better (or worse) until you finally need Him?

Or are you living life with Him as your priority? Are you doing life with Him and for Him?

Right now, if you are struggling with this, I want to direct you toward prayer with God. Ask Him to guide you and lead you and change your heart. Rearrange your schedule and make new habits to help with this adjustment.

It can be easy to make God an accessory: something that we add to ourselves. When in fact, He needs to be the statement piece we never take off.

I love Isaiah 45:22 for this topic which says, “Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth; For I am God, and there is no other.”

That’s it. God wants our whole being. The creator, our Heavenly Father, the God of the Old Testament wants us. He cares about us and wants a full-on relationship with you. So what are you waiting for? What’s holding you back?

I hope this post could encourage you and inspire you through whatever you’re facing.

I hope you have a blessed day!

Love, Ainsley ❤

This was a great reminder, Ainsley! And it’s so crazy- but also amazing- that the closer I grow to God, the worse I feel when I do find myself neglecting my relationship with Him. But praise Him for never leaving us even when we leave Him! Beautiful post! ❤
