As the year is coming to a close, I wanted to finish it with my favorite things and accomplishments from the year. This year was full of many opportunities, many adventures, some challenges here and there, and definitely a lot of strengthening in my relationship with Christ.
Wow! I can’t believe it’s already coming to the end! I’m kinda shocked.
This post was inspired by my friend Abigail over at Galatians 6:9 blog.
Favorite song: This is definitely a hard one! I listened to Tenth Avenue North and Britt Nicole a lot, especially with their new albums. Also, over the summer, I really loved Hillsong Young & Free’s Acoustic Album. If I had to choose one song, it would probably be ‘Even If’ by MercyMe, but a close second would be ‘Real Love’ by Hillsong Young & Free or ‘Control’ by Tenth Avenue North. Gosh! I can’t choose just one!
Favorite book: I actually have a blog post on My Favorite Books of 2017 that I just posted earlier this month. I also couldn’t choose just one book 🙂 I had to split it into categories. BUT, definitely one of my favorites was ‘Do Hard Things’ by Brett and Alex Harris. This book changed my life and inspired me in ways I couldn’t imagine.
Favorite Bible verse: A verse that really summed up my year was 2 Corinthians 12:9 which says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” A big lesson I learned this year was that I don’t have to try to be perfect at everything and that God can use me even in my weaknesses. Also another favorite was Romans 8:28.
Favorite movie: I actually didn’t see as many movies this year, probably because I was so busy, but I saw ‘Courageous’ for the first time and it was incredible. It had the perfect balance of humor and emotion and lessons. Some of my other favorites that came out this year were ‘A Case For Christ’ and ‘Wonder’.
Favorite foods: hmmm. I would have to say I definitely had a lot of sunflower seeds this year 😀 Actually, I started the first four months of the year with a low carb diet that I did pretty well with. I had Bogangles and Chipotle for the first time and they were both amazing.
Favorite fashion: I got my first pair of Converse (since I was like 8) at the beginning of the year which I am in love with. They are white Chuck Taylors and I pretty much wear them as much as I can. This year, I definitely changed my style to more simple pieces and cohesive colors. I added a lot of gray, navy and maroon and eliminated pinks and other bright colors.
Favorite trips: I definitely went to a lot of fun places this year. Over spring break I went to Fort Myers with my family and we camped there. I went on my first Mission’s trip to Columbia, South Carolina with my youth group (you can read about it here) and had a wonderful time working on homes that had flood damage. I went on my family’s annual North Carolina trip and we went to a lot of cool places like Biltmore and hiking. Lastly and most recently, my family went to Gainesville during Thanksgiving break for me to tour a college up there. I have to say, I think the missions trip was my favorite because I made a lot of memories, spent a lot of time with my friends, and had many opportunities to show God’s love to others.
Highlights from 2017: (this is a little inside peak on all the cool things from over the year, but this is mostly for me so that I can look back on it when I’m older)
In February, we finally had our volleyball banquet and I was awarded with MVP for JV. This was a huge accomplishment for me and I got a big trophy. Also in February, my baby cousin, Eli, was born. Around the beginning of April, I saved up my money and bought a new guitar with a plug in! After this, I started leading worship and playing guitar at my youth group. I finished my sophomore year of high school and passed my first AP class- yay! Over the summer, I turned 16 and I cut my hair up to about my collar bone. I had my sweet 16 birthday party (post here) which was probably my favorite party ever and the décor was amazing. Also because I was sixteen, I tested for my driving test and got my license- freedom! In the fall, I started high school as a junior and made the varsity volleyball team. My team actually finished district runner ups and we got plaques and metals. I attended my first homecoming dance and football game and had so much fun! Finally, I continued to play volleyball in the winter by joining my first ever club team. I sprained my thumb in our first tournament :p
I hope you guys had a wonderful year and have a great start to the new year!
I actually released a new page with FREE RESOURCES to help you guys out. I am super excited about this new step and I spent a lot of time working on it. Currently, it has free calendars and such, but I hope to be adding more shortly.
Thank you for reading about my favorites! What were your favorites from the year? I would love to read about them in the comments below!
